In the heart of Triglav National Park, on the sunny slopes of Mount Kukla in Trenta, just a few metres above the emerald-green Soča River, one of Slovenia's most special gardens, the Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden, has been flourishing for a century. Covering just over 2,500 square metres, it is home to plants that would otherwise require a hike into the high mountains to find. Some of them are so rare that today they survive in only a handful of natural locations. This year, Juliana celebrates its centenary and remains one of Slovenia's most important guardians of Alpine flora.

The can be found in gardens, along paths, by the edges of roads; in fact, in spring, they can be found almost anywhere we look. Yet in the international collectors' world, Slovenian snowdrops are highly valued and can fetch several hundred euros for a single specimen.

Once, when the mountains still proudly wore their white caps, which are now disappearing at an accelerating pace, the Alps were covered by glaciers. These mighty and slow rivers of ice, like sculptors, smoothed valleys, cut walls and created the Alps as we know them today. They created the emerald green Lake Bohinj, the breathtaking valleys of Trenta, Vrata, Kot, Krma and the Logar valley. Without them, Slovenia would look very different today.

The cave guide profession is so rare that it could be compared to the rarity of finding a pink diamond. Around the world, there are only a few hundred professional cave guides, fifty of them in Slovenia’s Postojna Cave alone. A coincidence? Not really. The world’s first cave guiding service was established right here, in Postojna Cave, exactly 200 years ago. Ever since, cave guiding service has served as a paragon of excellent cave tour guidance and logistics.
